Thoughts on the Summit

Thoughts on the Summit -  In a world marked by increasing complexity and escalating power asymmetries, AI stands as both a beacon of progress and a looming threat to collective wellbeing. Its exponential potential offers unprecedented opportunities for human advancement, but its application requires a delicate balance between innovation and control.

Intelligence, whether natural or artificial, does not automatically lead to wisdom. In other words, intelligence and the accumulation of knowledge may help us understand what is or will be; but only wisdom and values can tell us what ought to be. To be good stewards of these powerful scientific and technological tools, we must put equal emphasis and effort on developing the social and cultural tools that will help us generate the necessary wisdom to maximize human and earthly flourishing. Only then can we ensure that AI serves as a tool for collective good rather than a weapon for individual gain or corporatist greed..
