KEM-LAURIN LUBIN

PHD-C, AI SCH0LAR & FOUNDER OF HUMAN TECH FUTRES & AI GLOBAL SOUTH SUMMIT co-chair

Kem-Laurin is a Post-Colonial Scholar with a focus on AI and Identity Rhetoric with over 15 years of experience in technology design, specializing in transformation strategy. Her career includes leading transformative initiatives in global roles at Siemens, BlackBerry, and Autodesk. In 2011, she authored the pioneering text in Sustainable Design, User Experience in the Age of Sustainability, focusing on integrating sustainable practices into user experience design.

She has collaborated with both industry and political organizations and leaders  to create responsive political messaging using AI responsibly. As one of the co-founders of the AI Global South Summit, she brings together experts, scholars, practitioners, and cultural custodians to explore innovative strategies for preserving and monetizing cultural assets through AI.

Her academic journey includes roles at the University of Waterloo and several prestigious awards, such as the 2021-2022 OGS/QEII-GSST Scholarship, the President’s Graduate Scholarship (PGS) 2021, and the 2023/24 DiMarco Computational Rhetoric Award. As an Editorial Board Member for the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD), she advocates for sustainable technology design.

At Human Tech Futures, she emphasizes the economic, sociological, and environmental facets of sustainability, leading conversations and promoting a holistic approach to technology and design. Additionally, she guides organizations in the ethical implementation and governance of AI technologies.

Her upcoming, co-authored text on AI Policy for the Global South is due out in Summer 2025.
